Overview
Jönköping University, in collaboration with BI Norwegian Business School, Oslo, Norway offers a unique opportunity designed for international students as a bridge towards a degree at BI.
The BI-Jönköping University Pathway Programme is designed to enable international students academically to enter a bachelor program at BI. The emphasis is building a solid academic foundation for success in higher education, becoming familiar with Scandinavian life and culture, and improving English competency and proficiency. Classes for the Pathway Programme will be held at Jönköping University in Sweden, at the campus in Gränna and the campus in Jönköping.
At JU, you will immerse yourself in the English language and Swedish culture. You’ll continue to build on that experience as you earn your degree from a university in Norway. Through a unique partnership between Jönköping University and BI, students who are accepted into the JU Pathway and commit to completing their degree at BI are guaranteed full admission upon successfully completing the Pathway program.
This program is designed for international students who want to enable their English language skills in combination with an introduction to the Swedish language or upskill in Mathematics and becoming acquainted with Scandinavian society and culture.
Pathway Year English provides knowledge about higher education and how to communicate in an academic environment.
During the programme, students will have the opportunity to participate in group discussions, share their own experiences, develop critical thinking, research ethics, and gain a more profound knowledge of living conditions, social issues, and cultural features in different parts of the world.
Pathway Year English has a lower English level entry requirement (IELTS entry: 5.0 or equivalent *). It is ideal for students who need more time to reach their proficiency and communicate effectively in an academic environment.
Facts and requirements
After the programme
Upon completion of the programme you will have recieved:
- direct entry to a degree programme at BI Norweigan Business School
- the English language level in reading, writing, listening and speaking necessary for enrollment in degree programmes at BI Norweigan Business School
- support in adjusting to the demands, challenges and expectations of Scandinavian higher education
- acclimatization to Scandinavian culture making it easier to live and study in Norway
- basic knowledge in the Swedish Language or upskilled level in Mathematics
In addition at the end of the pathway programme, you will receive a certificate of completion demonstrating skills equivalent to the Swedish high school course English 6 and Mathematics 3c. This is the most common English language level required for entering higher education in Sweden. You can read more about corresponding levels in other countries here.

Course Structure
During the first semester, students have two core courses and can choose one from the elective course option.
Students have two core courses in the second semester and can choose one course from the elective courses’ options.

- Pathway English 2, 20 credits
- Pathway Life and Studies 1, 2.5 credits
- Pathway Life and Studies 2, 2.5 credits
Elective Courses
- Students have the opportunity to study either Pathway Swedish 1 in Semester 1 followed by Pathway Swedish 2 in Semester 2, or alternatively Pathway Mathematics 1 during Semester 1, followed by Pathway Study Skills Intercultural competence and Advanced Literacies in Semester 2.
- Pathway Study Skills Intercultural competence and Advanced Literacies 7.5 credits
- Pathway Mathematics 1, 7.5 credits
- Pathway Swedish 1, 7.5 credits
- Pathway Swedish 2, 7,5 credits

When will be the last day for arrival?
We expect you to be in Gränna for the roll call when the semester starts. If you can not arrive on time and you have informed pathwayadmissions@ju.se, we grant late arrivals until one month after the start of your programme. Do not forget to inform accommodations@ju.se and your teachers at pathway@ju.se as well.
Are you arriving late?
Do not worry, we will ensure students who have contacted us can participate online. Note that to be able to keep your place you have to partake in lectures, workshops and group work online.
