When you have completed your degree programme, it is possible to stay in Sweden to look for work for up to one year.

There are some requirements that must be fulfilled to be eligible for a permit to look for work after completing higher education studies.

You must:

  1. Have a valid passport
  2. Submit the application before the current study permit expires
  3. Have completed a degree programme at a higher education institution of at least two semesters.
That means the completion of a one- or two-year master programme or three-year bachelor programme. You must have passed all credits within the degree programme.
Completion of a Pathway Year programme does not meet the requirement for a "looking for work permit".
  4. Plan to look for work or investigate the possibility of starting your own business
  5. Be able to support yourself financially.
You need to show you have sufficient funds to support yourself (and any family members) financially for one year (12 months).
  6. Have, or have applied for, comprehensive health insurance.
If you have a Swedish personal number, you will have access to medical and dental care.
If you studied a one-year master programme less than 365 days, you must purchase a comprehensive health insurance from your home country.
See the information about the Swedish personal number.
