JU students livestreams for 36 hours to raise money for Music Aid

The 2025 edition of Radio K Bryr Sig (RKBS) will begin live streaming at 08:00 on 25 November and will broadcast live until 20:00 on 26 November. All money raised by the event will go directly to this year’s Music Aid (Musikhjälpen). This year’s theme is “All children have the right to go to school”.

Parts of RKBS

Some of RKBS ready for 36 hours of broadcasting.

Last year, RKBS raised a total of SEK 117,000, and we are carrying that energy forward. This year, we are aiming even higher. The most important thing is, of course, the purpose of the fundraiser, but we also believe that we can beat last year's result with the help of stronger partnerships with companies, JU and committees,” says Tova Kilander, chair of Radio K and project manager for RKBS

Radio K is one of the committees under the student association LOK at the School of Education and Communication at Jönköping University (JU). RKBS is the highlight of the year and their biggest event. The team consists of 17 students and they have been working on the event since early spring.

Broadcasting from the cage in Café Rio

Just like last year, the students have built a glass cage at Café Rio, located in the Students’ House on campus, where everyone is welcome to drop in, have a coffee, watch and listen as they broadcast live. The programme for the 36-hour broadcast is extensive. The event features a number of guests, including Hugo Fransson and Nikola Pasic, who play for HV71, David Gustafsson, winner of Legomaster, and Olle Axeland, participant in this year's Paradise Hotel. The programme also includes live music, a Christmas market and auctions – all with the aim of raising as much money as possible to support Musikhjälpen.

“I am really looking forward to seeing everyone’s work come to life.”

Tova Kilander is excited about the marathon broadcast and believes that the cause behind the fundraiser is important.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone’s work come to life. There’s something special about sitting in the cage for so long. Of course, there are parts of the programme that I’m particularly excited about – the Christmas market and live music are going to be really fun. I think it's an incredibly important and relevant theme this year. Education is a fundamental right that shapes both the future and opportunities. Getting students together around such a powerful issue feels very meaningful," she says.

During one week, once a year (since 2008), three celebrities are locked in a cage somewhere in Sweden to broadcast radio and television around the clock for 144 hours. Last year, over SEK 60 million was raised.

This year's Musikhjälpen will be broadcast from Stora torget in Karlstad from 1 to 7 December, and the hosts are Linnea Wikblad, Assia Dahir and Hampus Hedström.

Musikhjälpen is organised by P3 Sveriges Radio, SVT and Radiohjälpen.
