New summer school strengthens JU's internationalisation

Jönköping University (JU) recently welcomed around 40 students from The University of Nagano in Japan as part of a new international collaboration. For two weeks in June, the Japanese students took part in a summer school with a focus on sustainability, Swedish culture and business English.
The collaboration between JU and the Japanese university began to take shape two years ago. In November 2024, University Director Eva Gipperth travelled to Japan to deepen the relationship, which has now resulted in the first student exchange.
“There is a great interest in Europe and Sweden in Japan. The University of Nagano is a smaller university that is similar to JU in many ways. I see great opportunities to develop this co-operation further,” says Eva Gipperth.
During their stay in Sweden, the students visited IKEA's headquarters in Älmhult and Toyota's factory in Mjölby - two examples of how sustainability and business strategy can be combined in practice.
The summer school is a step in JU's long-term effort to strengthen its international relations and offer students a greater global perspective.
