In 2024, Jönköping University's (JU) quality assurance work was reviewed by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ). JU submitted a self-assessment in May 2024 and during November, UKÄ conducted interviews on site at JU. UKÄ have now published that JU's quality assurance work is approved with reservations for both education and research. This means that JU's quality system is approved and that there are parts that JU will continue to work on during the next two-year period.

“We are pleased that UKÄ confirms that our work in several key areas is of high quality and that they highlight the continuous improvement work we do to quality assurance. I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has participated in the work on the report and during the interviews in November,” says Salem Seifeddine, Executive Vice President at JU.

Within education, JU’s systematic work with student support and learning resources is recognized. Furthermore, good conditions for skills development are highlighted, where Educate is emphasized as an important resource. The work with research links in education is also stressed and JU has an ambition to develop this area further.

In research, it is highlighted that the quality system provides a good basis for systematically analyzing and improving research, where there are resources and good conditions for developing and renewing research and research environments. Other examples include appropriate research support and career support for researchers. A well-functioning organization for promoting good research practice is a further strength.

UKÄ’s feedback is crucial

The evaluation team writes, among other things, that JU’s quality work generally functions well and that they have confidence that the system ensures and develops quality in both education and research. They have perceived a strong commitment to quality issues at various levels within JU.

“The feedback from the evaluation team and UKÄ is crucial for our further work. The identified areas for improvement, such as quality culture, continuous follow-up and gender equality, are all important elements in our long-term development work. The review process gives us the opportunity to deepen our quality work and ensure that JU continues to offer education and conduct research of the highest quality,” Salem concludes.

The work to further develop JU’s quality system is already underway internally. A working group with representatives from each school has been initiated, and this work will consider the development areas identified by UKÄ. JU is to report to UKÄ within two years on the continued quality work.
