Information regarding the coronavirus

As we have previously advised there has been one confirmed case of the coronavirus in Jönköping. Both the Infection Control Department (Smittskyddsenheten) at Jönköping County and the Public Health Agency of Sweden External link, opens in new window. (Folkhälsomyndigheten) consider that this is an isolated case and that there is no increased risk of infection for the general public in Jönköping county or Sweden.

Travel to and from China
JU has been in contact with the students who have arrived from China in the last days, as well as students expected to arrive within the coming weeks.
JU’s recommendations to students in regards to trips to and from China:
- If you show symptoms of the Corona virus, contact the public healthcare at 1177 immediately.
- After our consultation with the Infection Control Department doctor, we recommend that when you arrive from China you should minimize the number of contacts you have in the coming 14 days. JU will assist you with your studies and with private accommodation as well as providing other support. Contact the crisis phoneline on +46 73-910 15 09.
JU has taken the following measures in conjunction with the Corona virus
18 January
The International Office at JU maps students doing their exchange in China. Currently there is one student on an exchange in China, who is located in Hong Kong. We have been in touch with the student and have made sure that the student is well and is well informed about the situation.
23 January
The Student Health Care at JU contacts the Infection Control Department at Ryhov Hospital for guidelines on how to best inform students and staff.

25 January
The International Office at JU informs students with scheduled exchange studies in China during the spring semester that we may have to look at alternative exchange destinations.
31 January
JU is informed about one confirmed case of the Corona virus in Jönköping.
JU’s crisis organisation is activated by the President Agneta Marell. Hanna Ståhl, Dean of University Services, is appointed Operational Crisis Manager and Hanna Vinborg, Head of the Communications Department, is appointed Media Contact. In addition to this, other key functions in the crisis organisation are activated.
A crisis phoneline is activated at the Student Health Care at JU. The purpose of the phoneline is to respond to queries from worried students. The questions are responded to by the Counsellor at JU.

The Student Health Care states that very few phone calls have been received to their crisis phoneline in regards to the Corona virus.
The International Office at JU provides information about which students that have recently arrived in Jönköping from China, or who will arrive within the coming weeks.
2 February
The crisis organisation management has a dialogue with the Infection Control Department doctors regarding how to best inform the students expected to arrive or who have recently arrived in Jönköping. These students are informed in person, after recommendations from the Infection Control Department doctors and the Public Health Agency.
The HR department at JU investigate further whether any JU staff are in China or are expected to travel to China in the near future. At present we know that no JU staff has travelled to the destination of the Hubei province since the 17 January, according to the travel agency which JU uses for business trips.

JU has continued dialogue with the Infection Control Department regarding how to best inform the students expected to arrive or who have recently arrived in Jönköping. These students are informed in person, after recommendations from the Infection Control Department. Several students have already practiced self-quarantine, on their own initiative.
The HR department at JU is investigating further as to whether any JU staff are in China or are expected to travel to China in the near future. At present we know that no JU staff have travelled to the destination of the Hubei province since 17 January, according to the travel agency that JU uses for business trips.

The crisis phone line will close at 17:00 Thursday 6 February and will open again if needed. If you wish to contact the Student Health Care when the crisis phone line is closed, please use the regular contact information.

JU’s recommendations to students travelling to or from China:
- If you show symptoms of the coronavirus, contact the public healthcare at 1177 immediately.
- If you are arriving from China, we recommend, in line with the Infection Control Department, that you should minimize the number of contacts you have in the coming 14 days. JU will help you with your studies and with a special accommodation as well as other support. Contact your study counsellor or programme director for questions regarding your studies and contact the Admissions Office for questions regarding accommodation.
- The International Office at JU is mapping the students who have recently arrived in Jönköping from China, or will be arriving in the upcoming weeks.
- The crisis organisation is in dialogue with the Infection Control Department doctor regarding how we should inform the students who are expected to arrive or recently have arrived in Jönköping.
- Information given to these students is given via personal contact and is done in line with recommendations made by the Infection Control Department as well as the Public Health Agency of Sweden.
- We are following the recommendations from The Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

- The International Office at JU has been in contact with a student in Hong Kong and has ensured that the student is in good health and well informed regarding the situation.
