Karin Hellerstedt är Professor vid Jönköping International Business School. Hennes forskning fokuserar främst på strategi och entreprenörskap, med ett särskilt intresse för de olika faserna och strategiska besluten under entreprenörskapsprocessen. Hennes doktorsavhandling undersökte sammansättningen och utvecklingen av entreprenöriella team. Därefter har hennes forskning fokuserat på ägarskiften i privatägda företag i Sverige. Dessutom har hon varit involverad i flera projekt som undersöker beslut om avveckling och nedläggning. På senare tid har hennes forskning även omfattat företagsledningar, med fokus på VD-tillsättningar och avgångar, styrelser, olika typer av ägande, välbefinnande samt initiativ för mångfald, jämlikhet och inkludering (DEI).

Karin Hellerstedt har varit involverad i flera forskningsprojekt som behandlar olika aspekter av entreprenörskap, såsom akademiskt, landsbygds- och kunskapsintensivt entreprenörskap. Hon har skrivit och publicerat flera forskningsrapporter och publicerat i internationella peer-reviewed tidskrifter. Hennes forskning har också uppmärksammats i populärmedia.
