Integrated Product and Production Development Supporting Sustainability

Wlazlak’s research advances sustainable product realization and industrialization by fostering integration between product and production development. Her work addresses both organizational and technical challenges in enabling cross-disciplinary collaboration, developing methods, processes, and mechanisms that support knowledge integration and informed decision-making. Key areas include circular economy strategies such as reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling, scalability in remanufacturing systems, and the use of boundary objects to enhance shared understanding and accelerate knowledge creation.

The research aims to help manufacturing companies transition toward sustainability and comply with evolving regulations, including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and Digital Product Passport requirements. Integration across disciplines is critical for smooth product introductions, minimizing waste, and advancing sustainable engineering solutions.

Wlazlak adopts a sociotechnical perspective, emphasizing the interplay between tools, processes, and people, and highlighting the need to balance organizational and technical aspects for successful industrialization and technology adoption.
