New Study Explores Digital Platforms in the AEC Industry
The paper, titled "Digital platforms and the construction supply chain: trends and emerging themes in extant AEC research," explores the challenges and potential benefits of integrating digital technologies into an industry that has long been in need of innovation and efficiency.
A recent article co-authored by Imoh Antai (Swedish Defense Force University), along with MMTC members Sambit Lenka and Leona Achtenhagen, sheds light on the emerging role of digital platforms in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.
While digital platforms have the potential to boost productivity and create significant value within the construction industry, the research remains fragmented, limiting a full understanding of how these technologies can be adopted. To address this gap, the authors conducted a systematic literature review, leading to the development of an integrative model that highlights key phases of digital platform adoption, the challenges faced by industry stakeholders, and the opportunities for value creation through successful integration.
This study offers vital insights for professionals and researchers interested in the role of digital technologies within AEC. The article, published in Construction Management and Economics, also presents a framework for further research on this critical topic.
